Why this text is here: Use verified World Heritage information to correct the idea that the Great Wall was one wall built at one moment.

Today, the Great Wall refers to a series of defensive works built, connected and used in northern China across different historical periods. UNESCO notes that early walls already existed before the third century BCE; later dynasties continued building and using these systems, with extensive construction during the Ming dynasty.
The Great Wall includes more than walls, with passes, beacon towers and other facilities. Separating when it was built, why it was built and what it consists of gives a more historical picture than memorizing ‘one very long wall’.

Why this text is here: Connect heritage facts to a learner's visit without using unstable visitor-service details.

When Amy first visited historical sites, she walked around taking photos but later could not remember why each building mattered. She changed her method: before a visit she prepared just two questions, such as what the place was originally used for and why it is protected today.
Dàizhe wèntí kàn shuōmíngpái yǐhòu, tā fāxiàn zìjǐ gèng róngyì bǎ jiànzhù, lìshǐ gōngnéng hé jīntiān de bǎohù liánxì qǐlái. Duì tā lái shuō, míngshèng gǔjì bú zài zhǐ shì ‘shìhé pāizhào de dìfang’.
Reading signs with questions in mind helped her connect architecture, historical function and current conservation. Heritage sites were no longer just places for photos.

Are all the colors and materials visitors see today exactly what remained from hundreds of years ago?
Not necessarily. Some parts have been preserved, while others have been restored and protected. An introduction should explain what is historical material and what was treated later.
