Vocabulary in context
These short sentences and mini-scenes make the lesson's additional words usable instead of leaving them as isolated cards.
Step 4 · Sentence patterns
Build usable sentences
Study the pattern, then replace the example information with details from your own situation.
Need, should, be willing to and have to
需要 / 应该 / 该 / 得 + VP;愿意 + VPPut these modal verbs before the main action to express necessity, advice, obligation or willingness. In this pattern 得 is read děi and means 'have to'.
Interrogative pronouns beyond a direct question
疑问代词 + 都……;疑问代词 + 疑问代词HSK 3 uses interrogative pronouns such as 谁 and 什么 not only for direct questions but also for unrestricted or matched reference. The direct 怎样 + verb question is practised separately in this Lesson.
把 and 被 as participant markers
把 + affected object + VP;被 + agent + VP把 introduces an object that will be affected by the action; 被 introduces the doer in a passive relation. This Lesson uses them to make service-handling steps and responsibility explicit.
Result complements with 到, 住, 走 and 上
V + 到 / 住 / 走 / 上Add one of these result complements after a verb to show what result the action reaches: finding something, retaining it, removing it or completing a closing/attachment result.
Ask how an action is done with 怎样 + verb
怎样 + V (+ O)?Use 怎样 immediately before the action when you want to ask for the method or procedure, especially in service and problem-solving situations.
Passive sentences with 被
S + 被 + agent + V + other;S + 被 + V + otherUse 被 when the subject receives the action. The agent can be stated when it matters or omitted when the result is more important than who caused it.
