更 · gèng · to change or replace

九点从学校出发，大概九点四十分到。比一直等35路更快。

Jiǔ diǎn cóng xuéxiào chūfā, dàgài jiǔ diǎn sìshí fēn dào. Bǐ yìzhí děng sānshíwǔ lù gèng kuài.

If we leave school at nine, we'll arrive around 9:40. That's faster than waiting for bus 35.

左边这台比较轻，带去学校方便；右边这台屏幕更大，电池也能用更久。

Zuǒbian zhè tái bǐjiào qīng, dài qù xuéxiào fāngbiàn; yòubian zhè tái píngmù gèng dà, diànchí yě néng yòng gèng jiǔ.

The one on the left is lighter and easier to take to school; the one on the right has a larger screen and a longer-lasting battery.

我每天都要背着电脑坐地铁，可能轻一点儿更重要。

Wǒ měitiān dōu yào bēizhe diànnǎo zuò dìtiě, kěnéng qīng yìdiǎnr gèng zhòngyào.

I have to carry my computer on the subway every day, so being lighter may be more important.

那左边这台更适合你。你可以先拿起来试试。

Nà zuǒbian zhè tái gèng shìhé nǐ. Nǐ kěyǐ xiān ná qǐlái shìshi.

Then the one on the left suits you better. You can pick it up and try it first.

那就再来检查。如果又发烧或者更不舒服，也要早点来。

Nà jiù zài lái jiǎnchá. Rúguǒ yòu fāshāo huòzhě gèng bù shūfu, yě yào zǎodiǎn lái.

Then come back for another check. If the fever returns or you feel worse, come back sooner too.

现在我还不能听懂每一个词，但是比较容易抓住主要意思了。下周我想继续练，再看看自己能不能听得更快。

Xiànzài wǒ hái bù néng tīngdǒng měi yí ge cí, dànshì bǐjiào róngyì zhuāzhù zhǔyào yìsi le. Xià zhōu wǒ xiǎng jìxù liàn, zài kànkan zìjǐ néng bu néng tīng de gèng kuài.

I still can't understand every word now, but it's easier to catch the main meaning. Next week I want to keep practicing and see whether I can listen more quickly.

五月去会不会更暖？

Wǔyuè qù huì bú huì gèng nuǎn?

Would it be warmer to go in May?

我更喜欢短剧。乐队声音有点儿大，不过最后一首歌大家都很喜欢。

Wǒ gèng xǐhuan duǎnjù. Yuèduì shēngyīn yǒudiǎnr dà, búguò zuìhòu yì shǒu gē dàjiā dōu hěn xǐhuan.

I preferred the short play. The band was a little loud, but everyone really liked the last song.
